Despite a quiet July in the Atlantic, the AccuWeather.com Long-Range Forecasting team still expects the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season to be near normal in terms of the number of named storms. The forecast calls for a total of 12 tropical storms, five named hurricanes and two major hurricanes.

Blossom-end rot is another disorder brought about by intense heat and dryness, and so will be seen frequently this summer. It stems from a calcium deficiency caused by severe fluctuations in moisture and/or drought. How to prevent it? Keep your plants evenly moist by watering at the roots (but not drenched, tomatoes do not like to be drenched and this can cause actual blight), mulch, and well … do a rain dance?
