Hello everyone! Welcome to all of our new followers we picked up from the featured post today, and thanks to everyone for following! We’re getting a lot of questions about specific locations for viewing the meteor shower tonight, and we’ll try to answer some but we may not be able to get to all of you. However, you can look up your city on AccuWeather.com and see an hourly forecast that will show you the clearest times for your area.

The best way to see the meteors is to move away from city lights, and to check at the darkest parts of the night, around 3 or 4 a.m. We love getting your questions and photo submissions, feel free to send us anything at anytime, and we’ll go through and answer them. For some of the time-sensitive things we’ll do the best we can to answer you in time!

I live in St. Petersburg, FL, when is the best time for me to look for the meteor shower?

The scattered thunderstorms in the area tonight should be clearing up as the night goes on, allowing for partly cloudy skies the rest of the evening that should offer views of the shower.

I live in VT. When's going to be the best time to see this meteor shower?

It depends on what part of the state; Vermont will stay pretty cloudy but will clear up gradually as the night goes on. The southwestern part of the state will be the first to clear. Meteor showers are most visible at the darkest time of the night, so around 3 or 4 a.m. will be most ideal, and hopefully some clearing will start by that time.

The Troubling Future of Coral reefs in an Acidifying Ocean

Scientists don’t often get the opportunity to travel through time. But nestled among the beautiful coral reefs of Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a place that provides a glimpse today of what could be the biggest future threat to coral reef survival: Ocean Acidification. Ocean acidification is occurring because the ocean has absorbed about a third of the carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. That carbon is changing the chemistry of the ocean, making seawater more acidic. Reef biologists expect this to be a bigger and bigger problem as more and more CO2 enters the atmosphere.
