Incredible and scary!

Taken Sept. 15, this video shows rapidly moving waters rushing through streets of Serbia. Heavy rainfall caused damaging flooding across the area over the weekend. (YouTube Video/Mitsubishi Lancer)

Hi all! New guy Jesse here. Actually I’m not new to Tumblr but I’m replacing Sam, who has moved on to other things (and we wish her the best). I ran a Tumblr from 2008-2009, but I ran out of time and converted over to another platform. I have written a weather blog on AccuWeather.com since 2005. I’m a meteorologist, but try not to hold that against me!

Thanks for all the interest in our Solar Flare / Aurora viewing conditions map yesterday. The map remains basically the same today. More information on this storm can be found: on our website. If you live in most of the Northeast, you’re probably bummed that you’re in the “Poor” category for seeing the Northern Lights.

This Friday afternoon update is to tell you that there is some hope! The geeky GIF above shows total cloud cover from 8pm - midnight ET, from the best weather forecast model I know, the “HRRR.” It does show breaks in the clouds in some areas! I’ve only seen the Northern Lights once here in Pennsylvania; I hope all of you get a chance to see them tonight. Find yourself a place without light pollution, and hope for the best.

P.S.: The most likely place to find out who’s seeing the northern lights tonight, and get updates from our Astronomy staff, is the AccuWeather.com Astronomy Page on Facebook,

Internet, you were pretty on point at Photoshop when it came to Hurricane Arthur, but you’re letting me down with the lack of Angry Beavers references with Hurricane Norbert down in the East Pacific.
