Hurricane Season May Add More Problems to US Economy“The weather has a significant impact on every sector of the economy in every state of the U.S.,” according to Jeff Lazo, a scientist from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
Meteorologists at AccuWeather.com predict four direct hits on the United States by tropical systems this year. Clean-up costs from those storms will drain already fragile state budgets in a tumbling stock market.
A developing tropical system, destined to become Emily early this week, will threaten the Antilles first and could approach part of the U.S. coastline this weekend.The strength of the system will likely determine its path and survivability in the days ahead.
Since at least 1955, meteorologists have periodically looked at whether there is a reliable correlation between tornadoes and lightning and whether lightning can be used to predict where tornadoes might occur.

Current Heat Wave Could Be More Significant than 1995The peak of the heat wave will be Friday for the major cities of the Northeast. Highs will soar well into the 90s in Boston and New York City. In Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., highs will top the 100-degree mark.
Highs will challenge long-standing records. On Friday, Philadelphia will have a shot at breaking the 54-year old record of 100°, which was set in 1957.
Chicago was “ground zero” for the deadly 1995 heat wave. The death toll in the Windy City was 750 for the entire heat wave.

Great White Shark Spotted near New England Coast
A 10-foot Great White shark was spotted off the Chatham, Mass., coast on July 13.It is early for the many Great White sharks that have been spotted along the New England coastline this summer, according to Newenglandsharks.com. The Great White sharks are not commonly sighted until August or September.
