The extreme weather of 2011 has certainly taken its tolls on schools, forcing early closures in the spring and students to now relocate for 2011-2012 school year.</p><p>

Among the cities where schools have been most severely impacted by weather this year are Minot, N.D., Joplin, Mo., and Tuscaloosa, Ala.</p><p>

“The camera is 5 feet higher than the top of the wall,” Fato said. “The wall is 10 feet high from bottom of the pond.”</p><p>

Weather Disasters Busting the Bank for FEMA

To almost no one’s surprise, Hurricane Irene might bust FEMA’s Federal Disaster Relief Fund.

How much did Irene cost? Most estimates range between $7 and $13 billion.

If the preliminary hurricane estimates are correct, 2011 will likely set a record for the highest number of billion-dollar disasters in a year. Hurricane Irene is projected to be the nation’s 10th disaster costing a billion dollars or more this year, passing up the nine that occurred in 2008.
