HIDE AND STREAK  During the past week, nightfall on planet Earth has featured Mars (deep red), Saturn (lighter red), and Spica in a lovely conjunction near the western horizon. Joyce On Track to Join Isaac as Named Tropical Storm in Atlantic

The 10th tropical depression of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed and could further strengthen into Tropical Storm Joyce.

AccuWeather Expert Senior Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski said Joyce could be named by this evening.

2012 iStorm Isaac May Aim for Florida

Current projections bring Isaac, now a strengthening tropical storm, to Florida’s neighborhood during the first part of next week.

Lightning Fatalities: Avoid Being One of These Numbers

More people die or are injured by lightning in the summer months than any other time of the year. The increase in thunderstorm activity combined with more outdoor activities leads to a spike in lightning incidences. So far in 2012 (as of Aug. 20) 21 people have been killed by lightning.

Nearly 75 Have Drowned in the Warm Great Lakes this Year

A warm winter and spring and a hot summer are believed to be factors in the high drowning death toll in the Great Lakes so far in 2012.

I have a second job because I’m a recent college grad with a lot of bills and so why not, right? Last night at work I was making small talk with customers and they asked me if I was a student and I told them I also work for AccuWeather. They started talking about how much they like our website (one of them even took out her phone to show me she has our app which made me happy) and then they asked what I specifically did. So I told them I write for our lifestlye content area and work with our social media and they told me they had no idea we had a lifestyle area. And it’s not the first time I’ve heard that.

So since it’s early morning on a Sunday and what else am I going to do right now except for all the things I should be doing I thought I’d make a little reminder that we do have an eighteen-category lifestyle section. The “Your Day Starts Here” tab is a drop-down menu for our Health, Travel, Home & Garden, and Outdoor sections full of AccuWeather weather content, and also articles from our partner sights.

Additionally, we have also feature themed campaigns that run for a few days to a couple of weeks long depending on how much information we have. This week we’re on Fall Allergies, though that changes over to a new campaign tomorrow.
